Arctodus (meaning "Bear tooth"), more commonly known as the short-faced bear, was a type of bear that lived in North America during the Ice Age, going exctinct only 12,500 years ago. Various fossils have been found throughout North America,  with the most abundant fossils found in California. It is thought to have been one of the largest predators to have lived, and is the largest bear to bw discovered.
