Chalicotherium (Ancient Greek χαλιξ/khalix, khalik-: pebble/gravel + θηρίον/thērion, diminutive of θηρ/thēr : beast) was a chalicothere mammal that lived from Late Oligocene to Early

Pliocene, (epochs of the Paleogene period and Neogene period.) 16—7.75 million years ago.

Chalicotherium had long and heavily clawed arms were that allowed it to walk on its knuckles only. It used the claws to reach for high branches and bring them close to its short-faced head to strip them clean of leaves. Its head was a bit similar to a head of a horse.
