Titanomyrma

Titanomyrma was a giant ant that lived during the Eocene epoch (in the Paleogene period) 49.5 million years ago. Titanomyrma giganteum is the largest known ant. There is also two other known species of Titanomyrma, Titanomyrma lubei and Titanomyrma simillimum.

Titanomyrma giganteum and Titanomyrma simillimum were previously called Formicium giganteum and Formicium simillimum.

Titanomyrma giganteum males grew up to 3 centimetres (1.2 in) and the queens grew to 6 centimetres (2.4 in). It had a wingspan of about 15 centimetres (5.9 in).
