Glossopteris (Greek glossa (γλώσσα), meaning "tongue", because the leaves were tongue-shaped) was a large tree-like seed fern. It lived during the Permian period and was one of the most common plants of its time. Glossopteris was a woody, seed-bearing shrub or tree. Some Glossopteris species were 30 m tall.
