Haplocanthosaurus (meaning "simple spined lizard" ) is one of the most primitive sauropods from North America. Unlike other Morrison formation sauropods, which could grow up to almost 20 metres, Haplocanthosaurus only grew up to 14 metres. It has one of the most complete sauropod skeletons found, with only the skull and a few parts of the tail missing.
