Thrinaxodon was a cynodont therapsid that lived during the early Triassic period (248-245 million years ago). It was an ermine-sized about 30 cm long.

Thrinaxodon's name was taken from Greek θρῖναξ "trident, three-pronged fork" and ὀδούϛ ὀδόντ- "tooth", but with a Greek language error: *"Thrinacodon" would have been the grammatically correct form.

A scaled-up version of Thrinaxodon was used for the reconstructed cynodonts seen in the first episode of Walking with Dinosaurs, although Thrinaxodon lived durinc the early Triassic before the time of dinosaurs.
